Beginning Training
In order to maintain a high level of training for our existing members, we do not allow visitors to our standard classes. For anyone interested in watching a class, exploring, or just seeing what it is like to train with us, we have Open Sessions twice a month. For students interested in joining our dojo as members, we offer an Introductory Course three times a year. Before joining us for one of these, we request that you:
- Review and be familiar with all information on this site (Particularly the Etiquette for Visiting the Dojo.), the Hombu site in Japan, and Koryu Primer by Diane Skoss.
- Fill out the contact form (below).
Open Sessions
Twice a month we have open sessions to allow anyone interested in watching a class or joining us on the mats for training.
- They are held on the first Wed and Sat of each month.
- These sessions are $5 per person.
- The next open class is Wednesday, 8/4 from 8-9:30PM
- The following one is Saturday, 8/7 from 4-5:30PM.
Note that if you enjoy your experience and wish to join our dojo as a full member, you must attend an Introductory Course. Until you do so, you may attend as many open sessions as you wish but no other classes.
Introductory Course
The purpose of this course is to teach the most basic techniques and concepts of Daito-ryu to beginners. This course contains highly structured classes that focus only on the basics and is offered three times throughout the year. At the completion of the course, each prospective student and the instructor discuss if joining the dojo as a full member is appropriate.
- Previous experience in martial arts is not necessary.
- Enrollment is limited.
- Our next introductory course is in September (9/4-25) on Saturday afternoons (4-5:30PM).
- Please review the Introductory Course page for more detailed information.
